Tea-time hangout for London fashion-crowd

The Scene:
It’s owners operate some of the chicest locales to pick-up a fork in all of London, namely The Ivy, Le Caprice, and J. Sheekey. But since opening, it’s become the preeminent destination for the dining fashion-set and afternoon tea drinkers in search of a hot cup of style and celeb-watching. The Wolseley occupies a former car showroom that is decorated in a style similar to a French tearoom of Viennese osteria. It’s size is dwarfing, offering generous size parlor and drawing rooms for morning coffee as well as business lunches and late-night dinner. It’s the hardest tea reservation in all of London. But for those lucky enough to snag a seat, the sight of Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell noshing on cakes and sandwiches makes up for all the effort.
The Food:
The menu is a traditional affaire of Parisian staples like steak-frites, escargot and tuna tartare. As with most Brit restaurants, expect a patronizing selection of white fish, puddings and even beers on hand to make the blokes feel welcome. But with over-10 champagnes available by-the-glass, it seems every fancy is aptly catered to by the menu. Service can be a bit hit-or-miss with attention being paid to well-heeled locals and celebrities above your khaki and polo-wearing Americans. Dear Americans - please try to at least dress the part!
Last Word:
If arriving during the day be sure to visit the adjacent boutique stickled with everything from ashtrays and cruet-sets to wine and coffee.
