Star-sushi chef teams-up with LA's biggest name in nightlife

The Scene:
One of LA's Star sushi chefs recreates an ancient Japanese cooking art at this destination eatery by Philippe Starck in LA's Brentwood Village. The first in a line of Japanese eateries designed by the superstar architect makes its debut in Brentwood, think posh suburbia with OJ-history, reinvented as a "building within a building" concept pioneered by Starck to recreate a genuine Shogun-style dining room within a glassy epiphysis. The structure includes a lively dining room and be-seen bar decorated with intricate murals and blinking eyelid-art mixed with a sexy architectural edge.
The Food:
Chef Katsuya Uechi, of Studio City’s Katsu, serves up a much-guarded style of ancient Japanese cuisine paired with his already-touted sushi selections popular with LA’s 85-lbs actress set. Cooking is concentrated on a an ancient method utilizing a sizzling-hot Japanese robata grill at absurdly high temperatures. Aside from Katsuya’s acclaimed collection of first-rate sushi, expect char-grilled duck breast with yuzu pepper, beef-rolled asparagus with spicy teriyaki and one of the best kobe beef terriyaki you’ve ever tasted.
